West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today lauded the Kolkata Police for their "good performance" saying the force was carrying out their duties quite diligently.
Banerjee, also the Police Minister, was speaking at the Investiture Ceremony of the Kolkata Police held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium this evening.
She said earlier the forces' job was limited to arresting, which nowadays has expanded beyond many things starting from managing crowds during the Durga Pujas to being present at sporting events and entertainment programmes, besides looking after regular law and order of the city.

Banerjee inaugurated the new Shantiniketan Police Station in Birbhum district at the programme and said in the last four years of her government in the state, 91 new police stations have been set up out of which 21 came up in the Kolkata Police limits.
"We have set up 30 women police stations and ten more have been sanctioned today... So there will be 40 women police stations. We have set up eight coastal police stations and five police stations for cyber crime. We have also set up 88 fast track courts, including 45 courts for women and 19 human rights court," the Chief Minister said.
Meanwhile, at the Investiture Ceremony of the force, where Banerjee was the chief guest, Rashbehari Das Adhikary and Disaster Management constable Subodh Chandra Roy were awarded with 'Shaurya Padak.'
This year's 'Nishtha Padak' went to Manoj Kumar Das, Shiekh Mohammed Kalimuddin and Partha Chakraborty, while the 'Prashansa Padak' went to 20 and 25 police personnel were awarded with the 'Seva Padak.'
Five persons - Satyajit Chakraborty and cab drivers Mohammed Afzal, Arindam Majumdar and Ashok Patra, Ashadaullah Khan were awarded with the Bravery and Honesty award.
New Market Police Station was awarded the best police station and Central Division won the best division trophy at the ceremony.
Combat Battalion won the best armed force award, while South-East Traffic Guard was adjudged the best traffic guard award.
