Kolkata will get its first air-conditioned bus stop next week, giving a respite to passengers from heat and humidity.

The Lake Town bus stop will have a glass enclosure with air-conditioning and seating arrangements, municipality Vice-Chairman Sujit Bose told PTI.

It is built by South Dum Dum Municipality as a model bus stop, he said.

Altogether 26 new bus stands were being built along the VIP Road and Jessore Road of which only one will have air-conditioning, he said.

Built at an approximate cost of Rs 5 lakh, the AC bus stop will also have a security guard.

Transport minister Madan Mitra said his department would also build more such AC bus stops in different parts of the metropolis.

"We are finalising the details," he said.
