Kolkata to host snooker championship

Announcing this, president of the Hindusthan Club Alok Garodia said this would be the first time a tournament of such stature will be held in eastern India.

"We hope to make it an annual affair. We have set the ball rolling. We are hoping for a success and hope that in future we would see world's top cueists here," he said.

Besides Advani and Sethi, other top cueists who will take part in the tournament include Aditya Mehta, Kamal Chawla, Shahbaaz Adil Khan, Alok Kumar, Manan Chandra, Himanshu Jain, Siddharth Parikh, Devendra Joshi, Manish Jain along with the local duo of Brijesh Damani and Sourav Kothari.

 

The top pros, along with some from the hosts Hindusthan Club, will fight it out on a league-cum-knock-out basis for the main draw that will carry a total prize purse of Rs 3.5 lakh.

The winner team will take a prize purse of Rs 1 lakh.

There will also be a Rs 1.5 lakh pro-am championship wherein a professional will team up with an amateur to play doubles which will be held in accordance with the alternate shot basis. PTI TAP NIK PDS
