The Kolkata zone is among the top ten in terms of revenue realisation in the country, chief commissioner of central excise and service tax Gautam Ray said.
Central excise collection during the current financial year so far had been Rs 7,785 crore, 7.32 per cent higher than that of the previous year, Ray said at an event organised to mark the Central Excise Day here today.
Regarding service tax, the collection figure so far during the current fiscal was Rs 4,919 crore, 3.7 per cent higher than that of the similar corresponding period, the department said in a statement.

The top taxpayers included Indian Oil (Haldia refinery), ITC and Durgapur Steel Plant among others.
The department also announced the creation of help desks in each of the commissionerates to facilitate the assessees in filing returns.
