After creating a buzz at the various film festivals, much-acclaimed Konkani film 'Mortoo' is all set for release in Goa on January 30.

"The film received stupendous response during its screening at the international film festivals. Looking at the response, we decided to release it now across Goa on January 30," said film's director Jitendra Shikerkar.

The film was India's entry for the Melbourne International Film Festival of India and was also screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI)in 2013.

Produced by Atrey Sawant, the film stars Bharat Anaspure and Swati Rajpoot and Goa's famed actors Rajdeep Naik, Prashanti Talpankar, Prince Jacob and Saiesh Panandikar.

Shikerkar said that the movie is a 'black comedy' and a first such experiment in the Konkani film industry.

"It's a story about a person who helps in cremations, and politics surrounding the death," he said.

"When it was screened at IFFI in 2013, very few Goans could see it. That is why we decided to have its theatrical release so that it is seen by all Goans," said the director.

Sawant said the film was conceived as an attempt to produce good movies in Konkani industry.

"There was dearth of good films in the Konkani film industry when we decided to produce this," he said.

Around 200 artists have acted in the movie, which is shot in state's remote Canacona taluka.

"The film depicts the life of rural Goa and people living there," Sawant said.
