Haldia Dock Bacchao Committee (HDBC), a body of port employees and workers unions sought Shipping Minister G V Vasan intervention on the labour unrest by retrenched workers of private operator Haldia Bulk Terminals.

The committee in a letter to the KoPT chairman Manish Jain with a copy to the shipping secretary, also demanded court direction to the state administration in restoring peace in the port.

The unions also demanded rollback of the decision to transfer Haldia Dock Officers' Forum general secretary Ramakant Burman.

Meanwhile, operations remained suspended at berth 2 and 8 as workers continued to agitate against HBT for retrenching a large number of workers.
