Press Trust of India Jammu
Kashmiri Pandit and Dogra organisations today staged protests here claiming that the revered Bhargashakha Bhagwati temple in south Kashmir had been "desecrated".

The district administration had yesterday termed this as a rumour and sent a team headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Shabir Dar to verify the situation at the shrine and lock it.

The organisations, including All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee, Panun Kashmir,Jammu for India, and All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference, among others, demanded registration of an FIR and constitution of a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to take action in the case, which they claimed was "downplayed" by the state government.

"We condemn the incident of desecration of the shrine. We urge Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to order a probe into the incident and bring miscreants involved in the incident to book as they are trying to instigate communal tension," APMCC Chairman Vinod Pandit told reporters.

The organisations demanded security cover for temples in the state.
