: Kerala PCC today barred Congressmen from making statements connected with candidature for the coming Lok Sabha polls and asked siting MPs not to make self-declaration of their candidature.

Addressing a press conference after a KPCC-government coordination committee meeting here, KPCC President V M Sudheeran said the decision was also applicable to UDF partners.

On the statement by some Congressmen of groupism in the party even after AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi asked partymen to shun it, the meeting said the leaders should have avoided such statements. It asked congressmen to work actively to update the voters list in the state, he said.

The meeting asked government to reconsider the licences given to 17 quarries approved by state environment impact study committee, Sudheeran said.

He said the Committee's March 4 meeting would discuss the issue connected with the proposed private International airport at Aranmula in Pathanamthitta district, which is being opposed by environmentalists and nature lovers.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala were among those attended the meeting.
