Ahead of the general elections next year, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee today said it would revive its research wing to expand the party base.

The job of the research wing would be to expand the party base, counter the opposition attack on the party and its leaders and inform voters about the programmes, policies and ideology of Congress.

Rajya Sabha member and national head of research wing, Rajeev Gowda told PTI that the plans were afoot to strengthen the research wing of the state unit and meetings had already taken place in this regard.

"We had two-three meetings in Karnataka.. The research wing will function fully during the election time. Dinesh Gundu Rao is in Delhi and I have a meeting with him to work together and strengthen the research wing."

When asked whether professionals would be hired, he said it would be discussed with Rao, who is the Working President of KPCC.

Party sources said the decision to revive the research wing was taken recently by Rao.

"There is a research wing at the national level headed by Rajeev Gowda. Ahead of polls, we have to strengthen it in our state as well," a Congress spokesperson said.

A search committee would be formed to select members for the research wing and once selected, they would be sent to Delhi for training.

"It has not yet been decided as to who would head the committee in Karnataka. In all its likelihood, the research wing will come into effect by August 15," the spokesperson said.

These professionals in the committee would be tasked with creating content, designing digital posters and launch an online blitzkrieg, also targeting rivals, especially BJP.
