KRCL to take up electrification and doubling works

The Konkan Railway Corporation Limited has decided to take up electrification of the 741-km line along the western coast.

In the 26th year of its foundation, the doubling work on the route between Roha and Veer stations in Maharashtra had already begun, the Railway said in a release here. The construction of freight siding for Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) was in progress.

The corporation had earned a profit of Rs 129.5 crore in 2015-16 as against Rs 39.39 crore in 2014-15. The project revenue had also increased to Rs 526 crore in 2015-16 as against Rs 350 crore in the previous year.
 

New trains introduced in the route are Hazrat Nizamuddin-Goa (bi-weekly) Rajdhani Express, Madgaon-LTT Double Decker (tri-weekly) and Indore-Kochuveli (weekly) Express.

To make travel of valued customers more user-friendly, travelator at Ratnagiri station and escalators at Madgaon and Udupi stations had been commissioned. Four new ATMs were provided in certain stations and 17 stations would soon have CCTV surveillance, the release said.
