Krishna Reddy elected Karna assembly deputy speaker

JD(S)' M Krishna Reddy was today elected Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

As the House met, Speaker Ramesh Kumar initiated the process to elect the Deputy Speaker, following which senior JD(S) member K M Shivalinge Gowda proposed Reddy's name while his colleague K Gopalaiah seconded it.

The proposal to elect Reddy was adopted by a voice vote.

BJP had not fielded any candidate.

Congratulating Reddy, Kumaraswamy referred to the high standards set by Kumar for the House and expressed hope that the Deputy Speaker would also follow suit.

Noting that both Speaker and Deputy Speaker hail fromthe erstwhile undivided Kolar district, Yeddyurappa said "I had thought that Reddy would become minister, I wish for hisbest and better opportunities in the days to come."

The Speaker, while congratulating Reddy, reminded him about the responsibilities of the office and said "the whole House has shown trust in him, as he has been elected unopposed."

Thanking members for electing him, Reddy promised to work in way that would uphold the dignity of the Deputy Speaker's office.
