Krishna river waters receding, says official

Superintendent Engineer P Ramakrishna said today evening that the Krishna river which is in spate, is slowly receding.

Water is flowing into Krishna river only from local streams like Munneru, Budameru and Paleru but from Pulichintala or Nagarjuansagar, he said.

He said that the barrage at Vijayawada recieves about 41,000 cusecs of water, out of which only 2,000 cusecs is being released into irrigation canals.

Rest of the 39,000 cusecs of water is being discharged from the barriage to the sea as surplus water, he said.

The Krishna district recieved good rainfall for the last five days and there was no rain on Monday.
 

The District Public Relations officer informed that from Sunday morning to Monday morning many places in the Krishna district recieved good rainfall.

Vijayawada city recieved 17.3 mm, whereas Veerlapadu and Reddygudem villages recieved highest rainfall at 24.2 mm each.
