KSHEC to recommend common boards of studies

: The Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) today said it would recommend that the state government set up common boards of studies on possible subjects.

The proposed board would form a state-level pool of experts in each subject and conduct common examinations irrespective of universities, KSHEC members said.

The governing council of KSHEC, which met here today, requested the executive council to explore the possibilities of forming common boards of studies on all possible subjects, KSHEC Vice Chairman T P Sreenivasan told reporters here today.

"We will recommend for the setting up of common boards of studies on subjects, wherever possible. Recommendations will also be made on setting of a uniform academic calender for all the universities," Sreenivasan, also a former diplomat, said.
 

With an aim of improving the quality of higher education sector, KSHEC would draw government's attention to the importance of establishing the state Accreditation and Assessment Council and the Faculity Training Academy, he said.

To improve the relationship between students and teachers, KSHEC would also suggest conducting value-based orientation programmes for students and teachers, he said.

"The executive council's activities in the last three years were transparent.But many of our decisions have not been implemented. So we cannot claim that all our deeds were effective," he said, adding that they expect the government would consider their recommendatiosn seriously.
