The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) today ordered the state government to constitute a panel of experts including doctors to save the life of a 12-year-old rape victim of Ernakulam district who is into 22 weeks of pregnancy.
The girl, raped by her kin who is also a minor, is currently staying in a special care home here.
Acting Chairperson of the Commission, P Mohana Das,took a suo-motu case of the incident based on media reports, and directed the state health secretary and Ernakulam District Medical Officer to constitute the panel immediately and submit a report to the commission in two weeks, a release here said.

The Commission, citing reports, observed that the health of the girl is in danger and there would be defects in the developing fetus, it said.
The Commission said the panel should keep in mind the fact that since the time for Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) has run out, there would be threat for the girl and the child.
The case was reported from a village near here a few months ago.
The boy, also a minor, was booked for rape under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
