Daniel Khyriem, the president of the Khasi Students' Union, was today arrested for his alleged role in destroying property during the organisation's agitation to drive out illegal immigrants in the state two years ago.

Later Khyriem did not accept bail as he demanded for an unconditional release, East Khasi Hills SP (City) Vivek Syiem told reporters here.

He was remanded to 14 days judicial custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, he said.

KSU and 11 other organisations have been demanding introduction of Inner Line Permit in Meghalaya for a considerable period of time.
