KTCL Drivers and Allied Employees Association, which comprises employees of the Goa government run Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTCL), will support the national strike call given by transporters on September 2.

KTCL Employees Association president Joaquim Fernandes said that KTCL's fleet of 300 buses would stay off the roads, since KTCL employees would join the strike opposing the Road Transport and Safety Bill.

Fernandes told reporters that the bill is aimed at opening the doors of the transport sector to multinational corporations, which would affect the transport industry.

He said that the Road Transport and Safety Bill would enable private operators take over public undertakings, giving a severe blow to existing local public transport operators.
