112-years-old Kunjannam Anthony is the oldest living woman in India at present, according to the Limca Book of Records.

The Creative Head of Limca Book of Records (LBR) P P Peter today visited Kunjannam at the private Amala Medical College Hospital here where she had been admitted for old age ailments recently and handed over the certificate of record of being the oldest woman in India.

He said Kunjannam's age was confirmed in accordance with the Baptism Certificate of Thrissur Catholic Archdiocese, which showed that she was baptized at Our Lady of Rosary Church at nearby Eranelloor on May 20 1903.

Peter told PTI that this was the first time a woman's name was being entered in the Limca Book of Records as the oldest woman in India, ever since LBR started publication 25 years ago.

Kunjannam was born to Vazhappilly Anthony and Achunny in a poor family and has remained a spinster.

She is now being looked after by her cousin Jose and their children.
