The Delhi Police has registered a case against a former Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament for filing "frivolous" complaints and RTI applications to allegedly "malign and harass" officials of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

An FIR has been filed under relevant provisions for extortion, defamation at the Connaught Place police station by a KVIC official, police said.

The complaint alleged that former MP Yashvir Singh has filed around 30 complaints with the Prime Minister's Office and 15 RTI applications against KVIC and its officials seeking "baseless" information like the cost of construction of Khadi Plazas at New Delhi and Mumbai.

"The rampant complaints started giving mental trauma to the KVIC authorities, who are always overworked. Not only that, when the harassed KVIC officials approached him to reason out his grudge against Khadi, he demanded Rs 25 lakh for withdrawal of the complaints and RTI query," the complaint said.

It also claimed that the former parliamentarian has a history of criminal record and is involved in many cases including those of rioting and kidnapping of 18 Zila Parishad members.

The complaint has been filed after seeking proper legal opinion from the higher authorities. Meanwhile, the police said that a case of extortion and defamation had been lodged against the former SP MP.

"We are investigating the case on various points," the police said.
