KVIC organises 5-day beekeeping training course in Tihar

A five-day beekeeping training course was started at high security Tihar jail here today.

As many as 50 inamtes of jail number-5 in Tihar participated in the beekeeping course started by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

The KVIC will also instal 500 bee boxes in the jail premises after completion of the training to the inmates, said the jail authorities.

"The five-day training course, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream projects Sweet Revolution and Skill India, has been started for the young Tihar inmates," said the KVIC chairman V K Saxena.

"After training, the KVIC will install 500 bee-boxes in the jail premises having extensive greenery. These boxes will produce more than 12,500 kg of high quality honey and 300 kg of good-quality wax every year," he said.
 

Speaking on the occasion, the Director General (Prison) Sudhir Yadav detailed various initiatives of Tihar administration aimed at training and rehabilitation of the jail inmates.

Prisons are now viewed also as correctional homes where persons on the other side of the law are encouraged and facilitated in reformation and rehabilitation programmes, he said.
