KVIC supports Kshetriya Gandhi Ashram in setting up salt plant

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) today said it has supported Varanasi-based Kshetriya Gandhi Ashram in setting up a salt processing plant in the temple city of Uttar Pradesh.

With a capacity of 8 tonnes a day, the plant has come up in an old Khadi premises, KVIC said in a statement.

It will provide direct employment to 15 local persons and indirect to 15 others, KVIC Chairman V K Saxena said.

He said the trial run of the plant started from December 21 and it will go into commercial production from next month.

"The plant will produce iodised salt and it will be sold in one kg packet at a price of Rs 12 per kg far cheaper than other brands. It will be sold under the brand name of 'Ashram Salt'. The raw salt for the plant will be procured from Gujarat," he added.
