Kyle MacLachlan is set to reprise his role as Agent Dale Cooper on 'Twin Peaks' revival, which will continue the lore of the original series.

The 55-year-old actor has closed a deal to star on the nine-episode limited series, reported Ace Showbiz.

MacLachlan made a surprise appearance at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour.

"I'm very excited to return to the strange and wonderful world of 'Twin Peaks'. May the forest be with you," he said.

The 'Twin Peaks' limited series is eyed to air in 2016. Series co-creator David Lynch will direct all nine episodes.

The limited series is set in the present day and is promised to "continue the lore of the original series."

The original series that ran for two seasons from 1990 to 1991 on ABC follows an investigation headed by FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper into the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). The show that incorporated mystery, psychological and supernatural elements was praised by critics, but was never a ratings success as many believe that it was ahead of its time.
