A Kyrgyzstan national has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold jewellery, worth about Rs 22 lakh, at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.
The accused was intercepted by Customs officials after his arrival here from Bishkek on Tuesday. On detailed examination of his baggage and personal search, one gold chain and a gold bracelet, total weighing 922 gms, were recovered, a Customs release today said.
The gold jewellery was assessed to be worth Rs 22 lakh, it said, adding the passenger was arrested.

The passenger, who hails from Delhi, was intercepted by the Customs officials after his arrival here from Dubai. On detailed examination of his baggage and personal search, gold bars weighing about 2.5 kgs were recovered. The value of the gold was assessed to be Rs 62.27 lakh, it said.
