L-G directs DPCC to ensure industrial areas switch to PNG by Sept

Lt Governor Anil Baijal today directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to complete the process of conversion of fuels to piped natural gas (PNG) in industrial areas by next month.

According to a statement issued by the L-G's office, Baijal has directed the DPCC to ensure that industrial units operating in Delhi switch to PNG from any other fuel source they are currently using by September 30.

Baijal also directed authorities to prepare for coming winter season so that air pollution is checked in the national capital.

The lieutenant governor today chaired a meeting convened by the Supreme Court-appointed Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA).

 

According to a statement issued by the L-G's office, the DPCC informed the lieutenant governor that the work of converting fuels to PNG in industrial areas, including in Patparganj, Jhilmil and Friends Colony, is going on.

"The L-G directed the DPCC to speed up the process of conversion of fuels to PNG in industrial areas and complete it by September 30," it stated.

In the meeting, the L-G was informed about the traffic management near Anand Vihar ISBT.

"The Delhi Police informed that traffic police has deployed staff at all 5 major choking points on daily basis. The EPCA chairperson expressed the desire that the posted officials should remain present throughout the day," it also stated.

EPCA Chairman Bhure Lal further directed the Uttar Pradesh Police to make similar arrangements, it added.
