Lt Governor Anil Baijal today reviewed the progress of the under-construction Rani Jhansi Grade Separator, an ambitious flyover project in north Delhi.

North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) Commissioner P K Gupta said the project, which has missed several of its deadlines, will be completed by November 30.

Baijal also chaired a meeting with all stakeholders of the project at the site office at DCM Chowk to assess its progress.

Gupta informed the L-G that issues which were hindering the progress of the project till now, have been resolved.

The 1.6-km-long flyover from near St Stephen's Hospital to Filmistaan Cinema, was originally scheduled to be completed by 2010, but has missed several deadlines.

"The L-G instructed the NDMC to undertake the landscaping and beautification of the space under flyovers simultaneously. He also stressed that the drainage system and lighting work of the flyover should also be expedited, to complete the entire work in a time-bound manner," the L-G office said in a statement.

Baijal also directed the civic body to focus on the possibility of multi-level stack parking near the flyover to resolve the perennial need of adequate parking space and also to ensure that areas which have been freed from encroachment are not illegally occupied again.

During his visit to the project site, Baijal emphasised that this is a major project for north Delhi and commissioning of this flyover would benefit commuters of the national capital.
