Infrastructure firm Larsen & Toubro has bagged a Rs 5,580-crore contract from state-run NTPC for setting up a thermal power project at Khargone in Madhya Pradesh.
"Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a turnkey order from NTPC for setting up a 2x660 MW greenfield thermal power plant in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh on EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) basis, " the company said in a statement.
"Valued at over Rs 5,580 crore, the project entails design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of two coal-fired thermal units of 660 MW each with ultra-supercritical (energy efficient) parameters," the statement added.

L&T-MHPS Boilers Private Limited is a joint venture between L&T and Japan's Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems.
"While this EPC package order from a central utility like NTPC has brought prestige to L&T, it also comes with the added responsibility of executing the power project under stringent norms and timelines," Shailendra Roy, whole-time director (Power, Minerals and Metals), L&T said.
In the field of supercritical boiler-turbine-generator, L&T has so far manufactured and supplied 10 turbines and 8 boilers to various state utilities and independent power producers.
Last month, L&T won orders worth Rs 3,343 crore across various business segments. The company has also set up manufacturing capabilities at Hazira for power plant auxiliaries etc.
