Infra giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Al Balagh Trading & Contracting's joint venture (JV) has been appointed the main contractor to build the 40,000-seater Al Rayyan stadium in Qatar.
The proposed stadium will host games up to the quarterfinal of the FIFA World Cup in 2022 to be played in the Persian Gulf nation.
The joint venture was made official today by Qatar's Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), which along with its stakeholders is tasked with building stadiums and other infrastructure for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The SC in a statement today announced the appointment of the main contractor for building the stadium. The Al Rayyan stadium is slated to be completed by 2019.
A person in the know said the contract to develop the stadium is worth around USD 135 million (over Rs 900 crore).
The stadium has been designed by Ramboll and Pattern. Post tournament, it will accommodate 20,000 seats and will be home to the Al Rayyan Sports Club.
All construction on infrastructure for the 2022 FIFA World Cup is slated to be wrapped up by 2020.
Qatar won the bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup in 2010.
