However, A senior officer of Jalpaiguri district said, there was no starvation death report in the district so far.

Opposition Congress and CPI(M) claimed Sukhnath Kewal (43) died due to hunger and malnutrition after being deprived of ration supply at the rate of Rs 2/Kg for days.

The tea garden union, affiliated to left, also corroborated the claim by the opposition parties and Kewal's family.

"There has been no stop of ration supply to the said labour line of the plantation and the death might have occured due to other ailments," the officer said.
