A 44-year-old labourer died today after accidentally getting trapped in a conveyor belt at SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) in Chhattisgarh's Durg district, police said.

The incident took place at Sinter Plant (SP) no. 3 at the facility when the deceased, identified as Kamal Verma, was doing cleaning work, a local police official told PTI.

A sinter plant processes iron ore fines (dust) to create products that can be used in a blast furnace, he said.

Verma, a native of Patan area of the district, worked as a contractual labourer at the plant, he said.

While doing his work, Verma accidentally got trapped in a conveyor belt. Fellow labourers spotted Verma and immediately rushed him to a local hospital where he was declared dead, the official said.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident, he said, adding investigations are underway.
