Labourer held for raping 'mentally unsound' woman

A 20-year-old "mentally unsound" woman was allegedly sexually assaulted repeatedly over a period of time by a labourer in Warangal district of Telangana, police said today.

The alleged incident occurred in Rollkal village under Parwathagiri police station limits of the district when the accused S Ramchander, a labourer, allegedly sexually assaulted the woman several times in the absence of her parents, Mamnoor police station Circle Inspector P Srinivas said.

A complaint was lodged by the victim's mother today alleging that her daughter became pregnant as the accused repeatedly had sexual intercourse with her despite repeated warnings, he said based on the complaint.
 

A case was registered under relevant sections of Nirbhaya Act and the young woman was referred to a hospital.

Police are waiting for the medical report to confirm the allegation that an abortion was conducted on the young woman.

The accused was taken into custody and further investigations are on.
