A 47-year-old labourer was injured today when he was attacked by a leopard here.

Buddhilal was going for work to Heegaondwari village through a forest in the district when he was attacked by a leopard hiding behind the bushes, Dharasu Ranger Nagendra Singh Rawat said.

However, he kept his cool and fought with the big cat kicking and pummelling it till the latter fell into a gorge.

Villagers ran to the spot when he raised an alarm and found him bleeding.

The forest department was informed and a team of forest guards rushed to the spot. They took Buddhilal to a hospital where he is being treated for injuries sustained on the face, back and feet.

A doctor attending on him said he was stable.

Rawat said Buddhilal will be given a suitable compensation and a cage will be put up in the area to catch the leopard.
