A labourer was killed while four other labourers were rescued when some mud caved in during digging work of a basement here today, police said.
The labourers were engaged in digging the basement at a coal depot in Sector 19 here when suddenly some mud caved in, a police official said.
"A labourer, who was injured in the incident, was rushed to the Government Multi Speciality Hospital at Sector 16, where he was declared as brought dead by the doctors," Sector 19's Station House Officer, Harjit Kaur said.
Police is making further investigations and accordingly a case would be registered, she said.
The four other labourers were pulled out by the fire department personnel during the rescue operation.
