The paint industry has tied up with National Skill Development Council (NSDC) for setting up a separate council for paints and coatings to meet the growing demand for skilled workers, an industry official said today.
The Indian paint industry has been suffering from lack of skilled workers, the President of Indian Paint Association (IPA), J Krishnaswamy, said.
Addressing members of the IPA at its AGM here today, he said such a move would help sustain the growth in the industry and also to take advantage of the various government initiatives like smart cities and Swaach Bharat among others.
The requirement of skilled painters was estimated to grow to 3 million by 2023-24, from 1.7 million in 2013-14.
