As "The Shape of Water", "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" emerged victorious at the 90th Academy Awards, films such as "The Post" and "Lady Bird" were completely snubbed at the ceremony, despite multiple nominations.
Greta Gerwig-directed "Lady Bird" went into the Oscars up with five nominations, including Best Director for Gerwig and the Best Picture, but the female-helmed and -fronted coming-of-age film came out of the ceremony, empty-handed.
"Mudbound", Dee Rees' period drama, also failed to win in any of the four categories it was nominated, including the Best Cinematographer for Rachel Morrison, who was the first woman ever to be nominated in the category. Rees also went home without the trophy for Best Adapted Screenplay, which was bagged by James Ivory for "Call Me By Your Name".
