Godavari Vidani (25) committed suicide at the house of Abhay Ganorkar (30) last night in his absence, Raipur Additional Superintendent of Police Lal Ummed Singh told PTI.
Ganorkar himself works as the head constable with the police and had an affair with Vidani for the past few years, Singh said.
Both of them were trying to persuade their respective families to give consent to their marriage, he said.
According to police, Godavari arrived at Abhay's house last night and hanged herself after he left for duty.
No suicide note was found at the site, police said adding that Abhay is being questioned in this regard and further probe is on.
