Laimwon Nazary breaks 25-year-old junior high jump record

Assam's Laimwon Narzary broke a 25-year-old girls high jump record with a 1.77m effort at the 15th Federation Cup National Junior Athletics Championships, here today.

At the P.A.C. Athletics Stadium, Laimwon broke Bobby Aloysius's 1992 record of the 1.75m jump.

Rubina Yadav and Rekha, both from Haryana, cleared a distance of 1.71m to settle for the second and third position behind Laimwon.

Yesterday, Jharkhand's Priyanka Kerketta broke the 15- year-old National record to win the Girls' Long Jump event. The Jharkhand girl produced a best effort of 6.30m to clinch the first position breaking Ruta Patekar's 6.25m record that came in 2002.
 

Earlier in the morning session today, Eknath Turambeker set a new Meet Record in the Boys' 10000m Race Walk with a time of 43:36.67. Representing Punjab, the 19-year old Eknath eclipsed the existing Meet Record of 43:37.66 that was set in 2012 by Kuldeem.

Haryana boy Sunil (43:41.17) and Amanjot Singh of Punjab (44:08.17) secured the second and third positions, respectively.

Amoj Jacob, clinched victory in the Boys' 400m event with a timing of 48.25. The Delhi athlete won the 800m gold at the Asian Junior Championships last year and recently defeated Rio Olympian Jinson Johnson at the Senior Federation Cup in Patiala. He was followed by Haryana's Ravinder (48.66) and Gaurav (48.72).
