Lajong beat Wellington Phoenix to take home NE Super Series

Jeremy Brockie, who plaed for New Zealand in the 2010 World Cup scored for visitors in the 10th minute.

Newly signed Lajong player Friday Gbeneme levelled the scoreline for the home team when he found the back of the net in the 27th minute.

Friday again scored in 32nd minute as Lajong wet ahead 2-1. The African has now scored seven goals in three matches.

In the second half, both teams scored a goal each with Phoenix boys enjoying better possession. The visitors levelled the scoreline in the 64rd minute in a penalty shootout by Paul Ifill.

Lajong on the other hand, got only one opportunity in the 84th minute and Boithang Haokip converted it successfully to seal the day in Lajong's favour.

 

At the post match conference, Wellington coach Ricky Herbert is all praised for Lajong FC.

"They deserves to win... It was a good match and we had a tough game...," Herbert said adding that today's result as it means that they have to pull up their socks as they begin their A-League season in Australia.

Lajong, on the other hand is preparing for Federation Cup.
