"Get Out" star Lakeith Stanfield has apologised for posting a freestyle rap clip containing homophobic lyrics.
The 26-year-old actor shared a video on Twitter where he apologised and explained his actions.
"I assume characters that have different view points and different views on life, just from different perspectives. Some things my views are in line with and some things my views aren't aligned with. And this character that you've seen is a character I'm definitely not in line with and I definitely don't believe those things," Stanfield said.
"'I just want people to know, coming from me that I've never been homophobic, have never agreed with homophobic thought or hatred toward anyone for that matter," he added.
The actor then apologised for hurting the sentiments and said that was not his "intention"
"To be somebody that was out here just slinging arrows and hurting people, so I want them to know that I apologise that they had to feel sadness from that. So my sincerest apologies," Stanfield said.
The clip, captioned "offensive freestyle", was posted a few days ago and the lyrics in question included the phrases "that's some gay s**t" and "f****t, I don't really like to brag, but I'm straight, rich".
However, after the controversy the video was deleted by Stanfield.
