London-based steel baron L N Mittal has joined the governing board of St Xavier’s College in Kolkata where from he had done his graduation.
“With effect from July 1, Mittal is now a member of the governing body as a management nominee. He accepted to be a part of the body and is very much willing to be a part of our pursuit for 3Es – excellence, expansion and equity,” college principal Fr Felix Raj told PTI.
Mittal had passed out from the college with a BCom degree in 1969 after which he joined family business.

Other members include teachers, one non-teaching staff, besides nominees from the government and UGC.
Raj said they were expecting Mittal to come to Kolkata to attend a meeting of the body in September-October.
The governing body is the highest decision making authority of the elite college, which has already been granted autonomous status and the power to award degrees.
St Xavier's is now eyeing a university status under PPP model.
The college alumni association had conferred the 'Global Xaverian' award on Mittal in 2013 in London.
