A statue of celebrated Assamese litterateur Lakshminath Bezbaroa was unveiled by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at the Guwahati Club rotary today.
Speaking at the function, the Chief Minister described Bezbaroa as a great personality and a pioneer of modern Assamese literature.
Bezbaroa was a symbol of unity and integrity who gave a distinct position to Assamese literature in the world, he said.

"Bezbaroa's role and influence in the greater Assamese society would always enable us to immerse all the differences and work for unity," Gogoi said.
The great short story writer in Assam had through his fiction, plays, essays, poetry and satires is considered to have given a new impetus to the then stagnating Assamese literary scenario.
Bezbaroa (1868-1938) had composed 'O Mur Apunar Dex (O my endearing motherland), the state song of Assam.
