A petition submitted to Mizoram Governor Lt General Nirbhay Sharma via e-mail has accused former state health minister Lal Thanzara of indulging in conflict of interests and misuse of his office as minister and legislator for personal gains.

The petitioner, Laltanpuia Pachuau of NSW, Australia, sought legal action against Thanzara, Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla's younger brother, who resigned from the council of ministers and member of the state legislature on August 18.

"I hereby formally lodge a complaint against the former MLA from Aizawl North 3 constituency and request you to take the necessary and immediate actions based on Sec 9A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and Articles 151 and 153 of the Indian Constitution," Pachuau said in his petition.

He noted that replies to unstarred question of Novemeber 26, 2014 had revealed that the supplier of high protein biscuits to the Government of Mizoram under the midday meal scheme was HP Food Products, a company owned by Thanzara as declared in his election affidavit on November 7, 2013, under his immovable assets.

Quoting media reports, he also alleged that Thanzara held shares in Sunshine Overseas, a construction company which got a number of lucrative contracts under the state government.

"The case of Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Uma Shankar Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Bajrang Bahadur Singh who were disqualified by Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik in January this year bears a resemblance with Thanzara's case," he said.

"As a citizen whose future is affected by the leadership of today's politicians, I feel a great sense of responsibility to do what I can when I see an abuse and misuse of power by the well connected at the expense of the people," he added.
