Land scam: PWF seeks suspension of IAS officer

The five-party People's Welfare Front has urged Lt Governor A K Singh to immediately suspend senior IAS officer G.Ragesh Chandra and other officials, who have been chargesheeted in an alleged land scam.

In a memorandum submitted to Singh, the front comprising CPI, CPI-Marxist, MDMK, VCK and Revolutionary Socialist Party pointed out that CBI had filed a chargesheet in a local CBI court last week against ten persons including Chandra, Education Secretary, a sub-registrar and a District Registrar.

They have been accused of hatching a criminal conspiracy and 'dishonestly' selling 5.6 hectares of government land.

"It is the bounden duty of the government to see to it that the officials involved in the offences are placed under suspension to ensure that a fair trial is conducted in the case," the memorandum, copies of which was released to media here today, said.
 

The front had also presented a similar petition to the Puducherry Chief Secretary, a release from CPI Executive Committee member K.Murugan said.
