The landslide triggered by heavy rain late last night blocked the vital road connecting Itanagar and Lakhimpur in Assam, sources informed.
Over hundreds of vehicles remain stranded on both sides causing hardship to commuters. The police however, diverted all the vehicles through Bihpuria-Harmutti road en route to Itanagar and other districts of the state and neighbouring Assam.
Though two earthmovers were pressed into service to remove the debris, it would take more than one day to make the road thorough, police said.
However, no losses of life or property have been reported.
The road, which is considered as the lifeline for the people of Assam and Arunachal, connects the three districts of Siang belt including Upper and Lower Subansiri districts besides the state capital with rest of the country.
It also connects two districts of middle Assam namely Lakhimpur and Dhemaji with the outside world.
