Lanka releases 15 Indian fishermen

Ahead of a visit by its Foreign Minister tomorrow, Sri Lanka today released 15 Indian fishermen, leaving none in their custody.

The government is making arrangements for their early return, the Spokesperson in the External Affairs Minister said here.

"All free. With release of 15 Indian fishermen today. No more Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan custody. Arrangement being made for early return," the Spokesperson tweeted.

In his first foreign tour after assuming office, newly- appointed Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Mangala Samaraweera, will arrive here tomorrow to hold discussions with his counterpart Sushma Swaraj on January 18.

It will be the first high-level visit between India and Sri Lanka after the installation of the new government in the island nation.
