United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing the Parliament said that recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) should be implemented without further delay.
"If we fail to do so, Sri Lanka will be reviled internationally, and be forced to confront a hostile global environment".
He said his party backed talks between the government and the TNA.
"It is essential that these talks be revived forthwith to run parallel to the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) meetings.
"The discussion papers and the documents referred to already by the two sides provide sufficient material to build and conclude these talks," Wickremesinghe said.
The deliberations of the PSC must end by December.
"I would also like to assure the TNA that the UNP will support all decisions arrived at during the bilateral talks between the representatives of the Government and the representatives of the TNA," he said.
Wickremesinghe expressed hope that the main Tamil party would take part in the PSC deliberations.
The Leader of the House Nimal Siripala de Silva, welcoming Wickremesinghe's efforts to bring the TNA into PSC, assured that government would do everything possible to create conditions conducive for the TNA to enter talks.
He cited the government's expeditious action pledged yesterday to solve all problems concerning Tamil detainees.
"We have already taken action to help them and we are prepared to discuss all previously agreed working papers for a solution", de Silva said.
The PSC formula to resolve the national problem was mooted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa when his talks with TNA broke down in January this year.
Rajapaksa treats PSC the more inclusive process than just bilateral talks with the main Tamil party.
