Irked by DMK's charges on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, Congress today told the key UPA constituent not to exploit the international issue "too much politically".
"It is not a fair statement... A mature view (should be taken) and we should leave it at that... It is an international issue. We should not exploit it too much politically," party spokesman Sandeep Dikshit told reporters.
The AICC reaction came hours after DMK MP T K S Elangovan accused the Congress of leaving the Dravadian party in the "lurch" on the emotional issue, thereby bringing to the fore sharp differences in the UPA over the Lankan Tamils issue.

He said India should consider tough actions including economic sanctions against Sri Lanka for violating human rights of ethnic Tamils in the island nation.
DMK chief M Karunanidhi had recently demanded that India should take forward a resolution against Sri Lanka for its alleged war crimes in the United Nations Human Rights Council, saying such a move would reflect its commitment towards the Sri Lankan Tamil cause and the aspirations of the Tamils across the world.
