A notorious laptop thief who mostly targeted students of various colleges in the city has fallen in police dragnet.
Shakil Ahmad, who stole nearly 100 high-end laptops worth over Rs 25 lakh from college campuses over the last two years, was arrested today, police said here.
The 35-year-old, originally from Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand, was found in possession of half a dozen laptops at the time of his arrest, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order, Zone-I) Thrivikram Varma told a press conference.

Ahmad along with his brother came to the port city 18 years ago in search of livelihood and settled down after marrying a local girl. He initially worked with a private construction contractor and later set up a business of selling used cars, he said.
He then took to crime for easy money. The accused has stolen high-end laptop computers from the Andhra University College of Engineering hostel and a few other hostels of the city colleges, the police officer said.
DCP said the police got into action after receiving a a number of complaints of laptop thefts.
A team of Crime Wing personnel launched an investigation and zeroed-in on Ahmad. Besides the laptops, police recovered one LED TV and a car, which he had purchased from sale of stolen computers.
Sources in police said Ahmad had sold the stolen laptops to a few Naval personnel in the city and a probe was on to identify them.
