Larry, 5, was spotted proudly playing with the dead mouse outside the famous black door at 10 Downing Street, before the feline dumped its body on the grass outside.

Cameron and his family are away on holiday in Cornwall, and it seems their cat has finally been earning his keep, the Mail Online reported today.

"I can confirm that the cat did kill a mouse this morning," a Downing Street spokesperson said.

It was particularly apt, coming on a day when one of Cameron's senior MPs was publicly questioning whether he was "man or mouse".

The spokesperson quipped, "The only dead mouse in Downing Street is the one Larry caught this morning."

Last year pictures showed a frightened Downing Street mouse within a whisker of disaster.
