The world will witness the best of Mixed Martial Arts at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) this week in Las Vegas where top-ranked fighters will slug it out for the coveted title in their respective weight categories.
The MMA fans in India will continue to get a dose of UFC 189 on Sony Six, the official broadcasters of the event. Starting with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the modern MMA comprises different fight forms and disciplines including wrestling, kickboxing, Muay Thai, karate, judo, boxing and dirty boxing.
If the interim featherweight title between Chad Mendes and Conor McGregor is set to grab all the eyeballs then the Big Show at the famous MGM Grand Garden Arena will also witness the welterwight title match-up between Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald.
The MGM Arena, which has witnessed many a historic boxing bouts including the infamous Mike Tyson-Evander Holyfield ear-biting match, will see a fight of different kind as the craze for MMA grows in the Asian region with many a Thai fighters competing in the event.
Engrossed in a verbal duel much like in a pre-fight press conference, McGregor, in his inimitable style, said that his opponent is no match to his supreme fighting ability.
"If you have been listening I said four minutes into the first round he will be unconscious," said a confident Conor.
Also a pinch of Hollywood thrown into the Vegas fight with McGregor thanking Arnold Schwarzenegger's recent praise of the fighter. The seven-time Mr.Olympia had talked of McGregor as the "greatest" athlete around.
"Arnold is an absolute legend of a man I mean his story, he came out with the United States of America absolutely butt naked he couldn't even speak a lick of English," he said.
"He became a Hollywood megastar, he became Governor of California and I mean if he could speak or he was full blooded American he would probably be President right now so that man is an absolute legend and he knows what he's talking about when he's talking about me. So it's an honour to hear those words from my friend Arnold," added the Irish fighter.
Meanwhile, America's very own Mendes, who was an 11th hour replacement for the fight after Brazil's Jose Aldo pulled out with an injury is also boastful of his chances against McGregor.
"This is huge man like I said this is a fire I don't turn down. I got the offer and I said give me that contract right away. So, this is a huge, huge opportunity I'm not turning it down," said Mendes on being asked about facing McGregor.
The fight will be telecast live on Sunday, July 12 on Six, Kix and Six HD.
