The last date of filling up of application forms for inclusion of names in the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) was today extended till August 31 this year.
"It is further notified that the last date of submission of application forms is extended upto August 31, 2015," said an official release from the office of the State Coordinator of NRC.
The earlier deadline to fill up and submit the application forms was July 31 this year.
It, however, clarified that the date of final publication of the updated NRC continues to be January 1, 2016 and no further extension of any deadline would be possible under any circumstance.
"As such, members of the public are advised to ensure that they submit their application forms as soon as possible without waiting for the last date, which if inadvertently missed, would not be considered under any circumstances," the statement said.
The new deadline came following the latest order by the Supreme Court, which said on July 21 that though the final date of publication of the updated NRC shall remain unchanged, intermediary timelines can be altered.
