Last rites of CRPF jawan killed in Sukma ambush performed in

The last rites of Inspector Raghbir Singh, who was among the 25 CRPF personnel killed in the Naxal ambush yesterday in Sukma, were performed at his native village Sathiala here with state honour today.

A pall of gloom descended on his native village, about 35 km from here, as the funeral pyre was lit by his son, Amritpal Singh.

Inspector Ragubir Singh is survived by wife Baljeet Kaur (50), son Amritpal (24) and daughter Simrandeep Kaur (16).

Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar, Kamaldeep Singh Sangha on the behalf of Punjab government announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia grant to the family.

A gun salute was given to the martyr by a contingent of Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF).
 

Among those who laid the wreath were DIG CRPF and SSP Amritsar (rural).
